From a Woman’s Perspective Article for October 26/04Fashion Trends offer accessories that can perk up a tired wardrobe. This season the broaches, ponchos, shawls and larger scale jewelry if selected properly can be worn by everyone. The key is to select based on your own personal style so that these items have longevity and survive the current season. Allyson writes, I understand brooches are in fashion. Where should one place them and why? Dear Allyson, You are very right, broaches are very popular this season. Traditionally one would place the broach on one’s lapel. Today however, they can be placed for accent and emphasize focal points on a garment . For example at the base of a V neck on the back of a evening dress. They can serve as closing clasps for shrugs and capes. They can accent a hat. They are so popular that they are even being shown in groupings on a shoulder or lapel. A broach is an accessory that creates focus and in some cases conversation. I myself collect elephant pins and enjoy wearing them. Whatever appeals to you is fine. Remember wearing any accessory is an opportunity to make an unique personal statement so select carefully and then enjoy. Kim writes, I am 5’3”, size 12 and have always worn small fine real gold jewelry. I am surprised that I am very attracted to the larger statement pieces this season. Do you think I can wear a large pendant or pin without looking over whelmed? Dear Kim, Yes, you can. Select the pieces you like and use them to draw attention to your head and shoulders. Don’t use multiples. Let the item you wear speak. A larger scale pin or pendant will add colour and drama to simple outfits. Do select items that enhance your outfit and make certain that they are a cohesive part of your whole picture. The test will be when you look in the mirror it should reflect a well dressed woman. If the first thing you see is your pendent or pin , it is over speaking you. Don’t be afraid to wear the larger scale pieces just exercise good taste when you select them. Sue writes, I have an old tweed jacket that I love, however the neckline is showing wear and tear. Is there a way I can salvage this jacket for this season? Dear Sue, Tweed jackets are always classic. This season they are part of the fashion trend as well. If your jacket looks great every where except at the neckline there is a fashion accessory that will help you re-juvenate it. Try a fur or faux fur scarf or collar. These cozy fashion toys are the perfect solution. Enjoy your classic tweed jacket. |
