From a Woman’s Perspective Column Nov. 16/04

Dressing for the up coming Holiday Season can present some problems for those of us that only dress in evening wear at this time of year. You must select a look that you are comfortable in and that suits you and the occasion. Don’t worry. There are many different looks and combinations available to choose from. You’ll look great , feel comfortable and be able to enjoy the function.

Rachael writes, The Holiday Season is approaching! I have a tiered satin skirt that I love. It has a matching long sleeve peasant blouse. I no longer like the blouse. Can I use my skirt this season? If so how?

Dear Rachael, Satin is a lovely evening statement. Don’t try to find a matching Satin top in a new style. Try tops in other finishes such as chiffon, matte crepe or jersey. There are many different styles to choose from and most will work with your skirt. Find a style that suits you and you are comfortable wearing. The pairing will be effective and stylish. Enjoy!

Kristin writes, I am planning to wear a strapless gown to a black tie function late in November. I just bought a very ornate five tiered necklace and matching chandelier earrings. I feel over done wearing the complete set. Would it be wrong to wear just the necklace.

Dear Kristin, If you feel uncomfortable in the complete set, trust your instinct. Try the earring alone, or try just the necklace with a simple pair of earrings that are a close match. Just because a set is sold as such does not mean that one has to wear both parts at the same time.

Della writes, I am not a skirt person and hardly ever wear one. This holiday season I have been invited to a formal party. Would it be wrong not to wear a skirt or dress, and if not what do you suggest as a substitute?

Dear Stella, Crepe or Satin trousers with a matching jacket and a dressy underpinning would be fine for a formal. Don’t try to dress up a daytime suit. Shop for an evening trouser in a dressy fabric and pull the evening look together with a fancy lace or jersey top with an appliqué. A pair of dressy shoes a dressing hand bag and your jewelry will complete your look. Have Fun!
